Q. I can't find the streaming feature. Can everyone stream?
Currently, only devices that run on Android 5.0 or later or iOS11 devices have a streaming feature. Android users may be able to upgrade their device. Please check for software update info on respective websites.
Q. Can archives be download?
Yes, you are now able to do this by clicking the 3 dots next to and download the archive
Q. Can I mix the sound from the device and the sound caught by the mic?
Currently, all audio is picked up from the mic. Please adjust the device volume to fit your viewers' preference.
*The app audio will not be streamed if earphones are used. (This is an Android OS limitation)
Q. The screen pauses when I stream.
If the screen pauses during the stream, try reducing your memory usage by stopping apps running in the background. Also, turning off the camera can improve stream performance.

About Mirrativ

Q. What kind of service is Mirrativ?
Mirrativ is a first-of-its-kind live streaming app for smartphones and tablets. Streamers can stream their screen with just a few taps, while viewers can watch the stream and interact with the streamer in real time.
Q. Can I watch past streams too?
Yes! You can view recordings of pervious streams from streamers' profile pages. Since this archiving feature started in December 2015, streams before this date are not viewable. In the case that there were technical errors during the recording or the Streamer has set the recording to be private, these recordings cannot be viewed.
Q. Compatible devices and system requirements
Compatible Devices for Streaming:

  • Mirrativ is available for smartphones and tablets that run on iOS8 or later and Android 4.1 or later.

Please check the following info about each feature: "Following", "Discover", "Fav Apps" You can move around by either tapping the text or swiping between them.

    Only streams from people you are following will be listed
  • Discover
    Streams that we recommend for you will be listed
  • Fav Apps
    Only streams for apps you selected in Fav Apps will be shown.

Q. Can I use it for free?
Mirrativ is completely FREE to use.
*Please be aware that you are responsible for any charges incurred by data usage during streaming or watching. If you are not signed up for an unlimited data plan, there is a possibility that you will be charged a large fee. We highly recommend people to use a plan with unlimited data.
Q. Tell me how to sign up for an account.
You can sign in with Twitter from [HOME] → Select menu on top left corner → [Settings] → [Account Settings] → Tap the Twitter icon
When an account is linked, users can login to the same account from any device.
Private Twitter accounts can also be connected. In this case, a link to the Twitter account will be posted on your [My Profile]. (However, users will not be able to see the tweets unless they are following your account on Twitter as of Aug 2015)
Q. I want to edit my profile.
To Edit your profile:
  • Nicknames
    Edit your Nickname by going to [My Profile] → [Edit Profile]
    *Can only be 10 characters long.
    *Nicknames are not unique so it can be whatever you want.
  • Profile Icon
    Edit the picture by going to [My Profile] → [Edit Profile] → tap the Profile Icon
  • Bio
    Edit your Bio by going to [My Profile] → [Edit Profile]
    *Must be within 40 characters.
    *You can add a comment under your nickname
  • Web Link
    You can post a link on your profile page
Q. Can I use the same account even if I get a new device?
If your Mirrativ account is signed in via your Twitter account, then you can use the same account even on a new device.
Q. Will my account data dissapear if I delete the app?
Your account data cannot be accessed anymore in the following situations:
  • Logging out without signing in with a Twitter account
    *If your account is not signed in with Twitter, the app will show a warning before logging out
  • Uninstalling the app without signing in with a Twitter account
Q. Tell me how to sign in with my Twitter account.

Log in

Q. I can't log in.
Currently, the login feature is only available with a Twitter account.
Please be aware if your Mirrativ account is not signed in via you Twitter account, you will be unable to use the same account after logging out. The same rule applies if the Twitter account is deleted.
  • How to sign in with Twitter
    [HOME] → Select menu on top left corner → [Settings] → [Account Settings] → Tap the Twitter icon
Q. I want to log out.
Delete your account by [HOME] → Select menu on top left corner → [Settings] → [Account Settings] → select [Logout]
*Please be aware that logging back into the same account is only possible after signing in with Twitter.

I want to stream

Q. I can't find the streaming feature. Can everyone stream?

Q. Tell me how streaming works on Mirrativ.
Mirrativ streams the Streamer's smartphone activity (by mirroring your smart device screen), video from the facecam, and the audio picked up by the mic (including the app's audio). Each feature can be turned ON/OFF through the settings.
Q. Tell me how to stream.
Launch the App → tap the [Camera] button on the bottom → Choose a title → push the [Next] button and you are just one more step away from going LIVE. Once you check your settings for frontcam, mic, and comments, push the red button and you're LIVE!
Q. What happens when I "select an app"?
You can select the app that you are streaming within the Mirrativ app. Once selected, followers of those apps will receive a push notification when you're streaming that app. The frequency of notifications will be adjusted by our team per app.
Q. What does the ON/OFF button under the Twitter icon do?
You can set Mirrativ to automatically post a tweet when you start a new stream.
Q. What is a "Private Stream"?
By selecting "Private Stream" in the stream settings page, you can selectively stream to your followers or prople with the link. The stream will not appear on the Top Page or in the search bar.
Currently, notification options for private streams are limited to choosing "All Followers" or by "Select Your Audience (up to 100 people)"
Q. What is a Tag?
By clicking the tag icon, you can select tags that make the stream easier to search. It's recommended to choose from the "Popular Tags" and/or create specific tags related to the stream.
Q. I want to share my stream to my friends on social media.
By clicking the Promote button right before going LIVE, the link to your stream can be posted to your desired social media app. Open up your favorite social media app to paste the URL. Anyone can view your stream, but app installation will be required to comment or send stars.
Q. About Current Viewers and Total Viewers
The "views" that appears near the settings button is the number of people who are currently watching the stream.
The "Total Viewers" number is the number of viewers who has watched (past & present) this specific stream. The view count on the profile page is the "Total Viewers" number
After the stream, you can check which registered users watched by clicking the List of Viewers on the profile page.
*Guest users (users without nicknames, which cannot comment or follow) cannot be tracked.
Q. Can I change the screen resolution?
You can switch between default and low resolution mode in the [Settings].
  • [Default] Resolution:768x512, Bitrate: 512kbps, Audio: 64kbps, Frame rate: 30fps
  • [Low Resolution] Resolution:384x256, Bitrate: 160kbps, Audio: 64kbps, Frame rate: 30fps

Q. How freely can I change the settings for the camera and comments?
You can turn ON/OFF the camera in the settings and change the size and location by dragging the camera box (frontcam only).
  • *You can also turn it off by tapping the [x] button.
  • *The comment box can be turned ON/OFF and be relocated by dragging, but you cannot adjust its size.
  • *The sticker location is fixed on the upper right corner.
Q. What happens when I turn off Share Screen?
Users can turn off Screen Share when they do not want to stream certain information on their phones. If the mic is turned ON, the audio will be streamed, but the image will not.
Q. What is Automatic Privacy Protection?
Automatic Privacy Protection is a feature that temporarily turns off the streamer's screen share when a push notification or phone call appears during the stream.
  • Settings
    Go to [Settings] in your Android device → [Sound and notification] → [Notification access] and select the Mirrativ app. Then turn on [Automatic Privacy Protection] within the app.
Q. About the Comment Feature
The Streamer can also write comments. Tap the comment box, and the comment column will appear. Type in the comment column. *note that whatever you are typing will also be streamed.
By tapping the comment box, the comment box will expand, and you will be able to read previous comments.
Q. How to use the archive feature?
Streams will automatically be archived by default.
  • After the stream, there will be a bit of a timelag until the video can be played. Please wait patiently until it has fully processed :)
  • Private streams will not be archived at the moment (Dec 2015)
  • During the beta test, archives may fail due to technical difficulties
Q. Is the archive feature free?
As of December 2015, the archive feature is free to use. However, by default archives are set to disappear after 14days. We may modify the 14-days policy in the future.
Q. Where can people watch archvied streams?
You can access archived streams through the following ways:
  • Your own/others' profile page
  • If you are following the user, the "Following" tab on the home screen
  • Under the "Discover" Tab
Q. Can archives be download?
Yes, you are now able to do this by clicking the 3 dots next to and download the archive
Q. How do I delete archived streams?
If you want to delete a stream from your archive history, you can do so or make the archives "private" by going to your profile page and tapping the x on the upper right corner for each stream thumbnail. You can also delete or set the archive as private by choosing the option in the [Stream results] page right after your stream
Q. How long are archives saved?
During the β test, we are planning to have the streams automatically delete after 14 days. Depending on the data usage, we may change this period. Also, during the β test, the archive feature ay fail due to technical difficulties.
Q. How to share recordings to friends?
At December 2015, you can access the stream archives by going to your profile page within the app. We are currently working on a way to access it through the Web, so please look forward to it.
Q. What will happen when I get a phone call?
Screen Sharing and the mic will be turned off automatically. Please turn them back on after your finished with the call.
Q. I'm getting stars on my screen!?
When viewers tap the screen, ☆ shaped stickers will be sent to you. Anyone can send stickers, so you do not know who sent them. If lots of stickers are sent at once, special effects will happen. Get lots of stickers by hyping up your stream!
Q. I'm getting pictures on my screen?!
Viewers can drop emote stickers onto your stream. As of Oct 2016, you cannot completely turn off stickers but you can change where they appear on your stream by going to the settings and changing the Sticker Position setting which will make the emote stickers appear smaller and right under the chat window.

Q. The stream pauses when I watch.
If the screen pauses while watching a stream, try reducing memory usage by stopping apps running in the background.
Q. Stars pop out when I tap the screen.
When viewers tap the screen, ☆ shaped stickers will be sent to the streamer. Anyone can send stickers, so the streamer does not know who sent them. If lots of stickers are sent at once, special effects will happen. Send a bunch of stars to let the streamer know they are lit!
Q. About the Comment Feature
  • How to comment
    If you tap the "You can enter up to 50 characters" column on the bottom of the screen, you can send comments. Feel free to send lots of comments.
    *Nickname registration is required to send comments
  • Color of the comment
    Black backgrounds are your comments. White background are others' comments.
  • I don't see my comment
    Innappropriate words and phrases are filtered out in this service. Filtered words will appear as ☆. Please cooperate in creating a healthy community for Mirrativ.
Q. What happens when I follow someone?
By following someone, a notification will be sent to them, and your username will appear on their follower list. Also, you can receive notifications when they are start streaming.
Q. Why is the number on "views" different from the number of people on the List of Viewers?
Only viewers that have registered a nickname will appear on the List of Viewers. Users who are not on the list cannot comment or send stickers.
Q. What happens when I share a Stream?
You can share the stream you are watching to other friends via tools like social media and email. If you see a stream that you like, please let people know!
Q. I see comments even though I turned off the comments in settings.
If the Streamer has turned his comments ON, the comments that appear on the Streamer's screen will be visible.
Q. "Screen Sharing is paused" suddenly came up while I was watching a stream.
If the streamer has turned off Screen Share in the settings or the Automatic Privacy Protection setting, this kicks in. Screen Sharing will be turned off until the streamer turns it back on. (Audio may continue to streaming depending upon the situation)
Q. Can I change the stream resolution?
Currently, stream resolution cannot be changed by viewers. The resolution used is automatically adjusted based upon your internet connection.
Q. What are emote stickers?
When watching someone's stream, you can press the button at the bottom right to open up your available emote stickers, select yur favorite one and then drag & drop them onto the screen anywhere. However, if a Streamer has their Sticker Position settings set so that emote stickers appear in a fixed position, they will always appear under the chat window. As of Oct 2016, stickers can only be dropped on streams from an Android device.

Fav Apps

Q. What is "Fav Apps"?
You can follow apps that you like under this tab. Once you've favorited these apps , app-specific streams will be displayed under the Fav Apps tab on the home screen. You will also receive push notifications whenever the app-specific stream starts.
Q. I can't find my favorite apps
Currently, the apps that are displayed for you to follow are limited to what's popular with people now. If you have an app that you want to add to the list, feel free to contact us through the menu at the top left ([menu] > [contact us])!
Q. There are times when push notifications are sent and times when they aren't
We have adjusted the push notification frequency so users don't get bombarded with notifications. If you have certain Streamers that you don't want to miss out on, make sure you follow them through their profile page!

Other Features

Q. About Notification Settings
Push Notifications is a feature that sends notifications to your phone when someone you are following starts streaming, if you follow a certain app or when something else notable happens.
You can change the details of the notification in [Settings]
Q. About the Blocking Feature
By using the Block Feature, the blocked user will no longer be able to see your streams and comment on them. You can block a user by tappng the top right corner of the user's profile page and selecting Block or by opening up the settings screen during your stream and tapping the block button at the bottom right.
  • *Once blocked, the user will not receive notifications when you are streaming
  • *Your streams will not appear on the blocked users' news feed.
  • *You can also unblock the user by tappng the "blocked" icon on the user's profile page.
Q. About spamming and bans
Mirrativ is a community made up of people from different cultures and beliefs. Please be considerate of others and follow the rules.
In the case that you are spamming or abusing other users out of ill intent, administrators will ban your account and any account that you make going forward.
In the case that you see an abusive user/spammer, you can "report" a user by tapping the gear button on the bottom right corner, then tap the user within the viewer list. This will send a report to the administrators for review. Streamers can block viewers by this method as well.
Q. What is a notification?
We use notifications to send news from Team Mirrativ, when you are followed by other users, and when there is a new stream for an app or someone you follow
Q. Can I see streams from other countries?
Mirrativ is used across the world. The streams displayed to you in the app depends upon your device's language settings. If you want to watch streams from other countries, please change your device's language settings. (You can serach for any region's stream/user/app and follow them regardless of your device's language settings)
  • Language Settings
    Japanese: Displays streams that are in Japanese
    Korean: Displays streams that are in Korean
    English and other languages: Displays streams that are primarily in English
Q. What does the number above "following" mean?
This is the number of people who follow you. (your fans)
Q. What does the number above "followed" mean?
This is the number of people you follow.

Rules

Q. Are there apps that cannot be streamed?
In general, any content on your screen can be streamed, but please abide by the Terms of Service. Also, there may be performance issues depending upon your device's specs and memory usage (the number of apps running in the background). We recommend using smartphone/tablets with higher specs and stopping background apps that you are not currently using.
Q. Can I play music while I stream?
Please only stream music after receiving permission from the copyright owner.
Q. What happens when I tap Report?
Any streams that violate our Terms of Service or users who post innapropriate comments can be reported to our Customer Support team. Administrators will immediately monitor the reported stream, streamer, or viewer and take action.
